Our philosophy

We are a boutique interior architectural design consultation studio, based in Shanghai. Our expertise lies primarily in hospitality design and residential renovations. We keep a close relationship with our clients throughout the design process, ensuring we maintain our shared vision.

We understand that a construction project can be overwhelming, particularly for the first time. To that end, we see ourselves not only as designers but also as guides, helping our clients navigate through the process.

These ideals form the basis of our philosophy; we aim to make the journey an enjoyable experience as well as producing an end result that is perfectly tailored to your needs.

Who we are

We are an international design collective, brought together in the enigmatic city of Shanghai, where we all met.

Our incredibly vast array of backgrounds and cultures, lived experiences and industries brings endless creativity to our projects, and our collaborative approach to design ensures our clients are getting a thoroughly investigated, well researched design solution, explored from all of our differing perspectives.


  • Founder

    Shelley is an Australian designer who has been living and working in Shanghai for well over a decade. After beginning her career in Architecture, she moved into Interior Architecture, wanting to focus on the very tangible interactions between people and inhabited space. She set up birdhouse design in 2016 with this in mind.

  • Collaborator

    Crystal hails from Lanzhou, central China, and began her career in Landscape Architecture but has since branched out to include Interior Architecture. She is not only a talented designer, but also handles all of the communications with our Chinese clients.

  • Collaborator

    Our Senior Architect Celine is currently based in Paris and has worked on projects all over the world. Passionate about sustainability (as we all are), she is active in promoting awareness and teaching the next generation of designers about environmental design.


  • Collaborator

    Nasim is an Iranian born designer whose work spans Architecture, Interiors and Industrial design. Her eclectic style brings a touch of surrealism to our projects.
